KING’S AWARD FOR VOLUNTARY SERVICE
Ekota is proud to announce we have been awarded the prestigious King’s Award for Voluntary Service. This is the highest award a local community group can receive in the UK and is equivalent to an MBE.
Over the last decade our organisation has worked to empower and support individuals and communities through providing development opportunities, delivering physical and mental well-being activities and operating our community Café.
The King’s Award for Voluntary Service aims to recognise outstanding work by local groups to benefit their communities. It was created in 2002 to celebrate Queen Elizabeth II’s Golden Jubilee and, following his accession, His Majesty The King emphasised his desire to continue the Award.
Representatives of Ekota received the award crystal and certificate from the regional Lord-Lieutenant and attendED a garden party at Buckingham Palace to celebrate the achievement.
Chair of Ekota – Sultana Rahman said:
‘We are honoured to receive this amazing award which recognises the contribution of every volunteer that has ever worked with Ekota. Whether it was one voluntary hour or hundreds of hours, this combined contribution has helped Ekota to deliver numerous projects which have helped to strengthen our local community‘.
